Beware Of eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Scams

Beware of fraudsters offering unrealistically low priced cars trucks vans suvs motorcycles on eBay Motors and elsewhere on the net. Scammers are also running fraudulent second chance offers that could steal your money and identity.

2008 BMW X5 Scam Listing On eBay Motors

2008 BMW X5 Scam Listing On eBay Motors

Despite the hiding of eBay user id’s, fraudsters are somehow offering phony second chance offers.

It seems like every time the ecommerce giant fixes something, or adds another feature, they hose something else up in the process.

Fraudsters hustling eBay members is nothing new. It’s been going on for several years that we know of.

We have received emails from several individuals recently that lost a lot of money to scammers.

One buyer lost $18,000 thinking he could buy a 2007 Lexus LX-470 for an unrealistically low price. The fraudsters stole his money in the blink of an eye. That was less than half of the vehicles true book value, at the time.

eBay does have a Vehicle Purchase Protection Program (VPP.) But they do not act as escrow agents. Nor does eBay hold money for sellers or refunding money to buyers. HERE IS A LINK TO THE REAL EBAY VPP DETAILS PAGE!

Above in this informative video, consumer protection attorney Steve Lheto explains several loophole vehicle purchase protection exclusions in eBay vehicle purchase protection plan. This plan is NOT Insurance and many exclusions apply!

It’s the lure of a bargain price combined with good old greed that keeps these scams running. Friends, there is no Lexus SUV for half of book value. Or a 63 Corvette Split Window Coupe for $7900.

As long as people toss all their common sense out the window and rush right down to Western Union. Or as this scam works, bank wire the money to an alleged eBay agent. Scammers will continue to drain Americans bank accounts dry!

Be especially aware of any second chance offer you receive after losing an auction, it could be fraudulent. Never send even a small deposit until you have confirmed the validity of the offer by contacting the seller through the eBay message center. If a second chance offer is not in your eBay MY Messages it could very well be fraudulent as well. Proceed with caution!

Invoice For eBay Motors Vehicle Purchase.

In this fraudsters Invoice for a vehicle, the goal of this scam is to sucker the prospective buyer out of an $8450 bank wire transfer deposit.

This scam has a double whammy twist to it. The fraudsters request calling a toll free number to confirm your purchase. Calling that fraudulent toll free number will get your Identity Stolen as well as your money!

Watch this video as we show how the scam is operated.

  • Yet another report about eBay and the fraud they try to cover up.

My trouble stated a year ago when I purchased a car via ebay and not only did this 2007 car not make it home but it turns out it had been involved in an accident and had been put back together so badly that it’s a write-off.

I contacted eBay and got messed around but also discovered by linking phone numbers and cars together that the seller hand no less than eight other eBay accounts making him a trader and knowing it is an offence under the 1988 road traffic act for a trader to sell cars in such poor condition I contacted the police who seem unwilling to do a thing about it saying it was a civil matter which I could understand if I had the fraudsters address to commence legal proceeding myself.

The police past me off to the trading standards who played me along for months saying they were waiting for information from eBay and by the time this information arrived the trading standards had changed their tune and said I didn’t have information to back up my claim that the fraudster had been using all the account however they did admit that eBay only had fake names and address for all eight accounts I had mentioned having removed all the relevant web pages and by now the trading standards were also claiming they could not connect the dots for fortunately I had manage to keep copies of the eBay listings, blowing that excuse out the water.

Soon it became a game between the police and the Birmingham trading standards who said they could not do anything as they could not find a name or address of the fraudster and the police who where saying it worth their time.

I complained to the police for not taking action who seem more interested in arresting people for eating kit-cats whilst driving than investigating a serial fraudster that has ginger hair and is well over weight and is selling cars from around junction 2 on the M5 in Birmingham and so I lodge a complaint with the so called independent police complaints committee (IPCC) who by their own figures throw 89% of complaints in the bin and all they did was stretch the things out and would not even address my allegations against the police.

Yes folks I know eBay has a lot of friends in high places but I didn’t know that included the Police, Trading standards and the IPCC and to me the whole episode stinks of fraud at the highest level and yet when I made request under the freedom of information act requesting crime statistics on internet crime I received a two page reply informing me why they were not able to furnish my request.

eBay apparently provides special training to thousands of police officer each year and I was wondering if they ask the coppers if they prefer cream in their tea when serving it up and knowing eBays reputation we can all expect the police will be asking the MAFIA for gun control lessons in the near future.

What should had been an open and shut case of fraud has now been dragging on for over a year and having been so appalled by the cover up I now run the eBuster,co,uk that has copies of millions of eBay pages thus ensuring eBay and the Police find it much more difficult to brush these crimes under the carpet as if they never happened.

  • Seems to me like you should have done your due diligence..There is no point blaming anyone else for your error in judgement

  • Nothing like Emafia’s PR dept trying to discredit posters that were defrauded on eBay.

    Hello Doc,
Is there any way that I can ask you questions on a particular scam directly via this site or email? I have recently seen an ad for a 2007 Honda Civic on Craigslist for only 45k miles and he is selling it for 3000$. Yes, the dollar sign is at the end of the number. I sent him an email and it seems legit. He even gives the car’s vin # and his name, but he would like the transaction done through ebay’s buyer protection program. I even looked up the car on carfacts and it is the same car, with close to the same mileage. I would like to give you the full content of his email if you can help. Thank you,
    Sincerely,
    Shane

  • Hello,
I “bought” a 2003 Silverado on craigslist for $3900…I was sent an invoice from e-Bay Motors Payment Protection Program… I Western Unioned the money to their agent: Rashid Gufurov 921 S. Main St. Las Vegas, NV 89101
The next day, I received a message via e-mail that I needed to send another
$1800. for “my portion of the shipping”….The “seller” told me that she was
paying the shipping to Houston…I e-mailed “them” back saying that I was not going to pay another penny for anything….HAVEN’T HEARD BACK FROM THEM SINCE.
What the heck can I do to try to recoup ANY of my $3900.???

    • I’m sorry, but an 2003 Silverado for $3900 is screaming out SCAM all over it!

I get lots of emails from folks that got taken. Unfortunately you money is probably in Romania by now.

  • Hey I was wondering in you opinion if this looked like a scam, unfortunately I do not have the original ad for the vehicle only the following emails:
    thank you.

The ad was for a 2004 Jetta TDI, good condtion, for $2900

    Read Bottom to top.

    —Hello again,
Well for both of our security the payment will be done through eBay.You will send the money to eBay and as soon as the payment is confirmed they will notify me to proceed with the shipping. I will ship the car, you will receive it and you will have 7 days for inspection. The inspection time period will begin as soon as you sign for receiving the car at your requested address, I can send it to your nearest airport or I can arrange for a truck to deliver it to your home address.During all this time eBay will hold the money into a trust account. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the car before decided to buy it.If you are satisfied with the car and decide to keep it you inform eBay about this and they will release the money to me. If the car is not as advertised and decide not to keep it eBay will refund you the money .Please take into consideration that I will get paid only after you receive the car and make sure everything is as agreed. If you are ok with this please provide me with your full name and shipping address.
    Alice

—Yes, I do wish to purchase the vehicle. Before we proceed any further, how would you wish me to transfer payment for the vehicle while protecting both our interests? No doubt you realize the problems present were you to ship the vehicle and I mail you a check, or would you wish a direct account deposit? I hope you have some idea as to how to conclude the problem.

    —Hello,
First of all let me say that the vehicle is in excellent condition; the body and paint are immaculate, no scratches and no dents; the interior is clean; it has never been involved in any kind of accident. The vehicle was my brother’s but he passed away and all of his possessions was given to me including this vehicle, I don’t want to get rich by it’s selling, just want to give it to someone who will take good care of it. I’m an US Air Force Msgt. currently stationed in Little Rock Air Force Base, AR and the vehicle is here with me, I can have it shipped from here by an US Air Force cargo plane so there won’t be any shipping costs for you. Also I can arrange for a truck to transport it to your home address or you can pick it up from the nearest airport in your area. The shipping takes up to 5 days, depending on your location. The vehicle will arrive with all the
papers and documents required for registration and the keys. If you are interested in purchasing the vehicle contact me back so I can provide you with more information, thank you

    Msgt. Alice Anderson

PS. Sorry for the long email I’ve tried to touch all bases

  • On the topic of ebay motors, you have to check out this site:

    http://www.RateEbay.com

You can actually leave feedback for eBay! At the time of this post, eBay’s positive ratings are a laughable 23.4%. eBay expects sellers to have 100% positive ratings and high DSR’s. Take a look at their low DRS’s and pathetic feedback. The site also compares eBay to Amazon, Overstock & Buy.com.

  • OMG aurilian! i am so disappointed at my own naivete. i received the same letter word for word from Alice Anderson. i was pulling my money together to buy the car. from the pics, i noticed that there were no back plates, so i just sent an email inquiring about it before i thought to google her name.

yup, when friends told me it was too good to be true, i should have listened. she sent me a long email with all the pics and specs on the vehicle, same car, same price. she said she pulled the ad because so many people were wanting to buy it. i just now sent an email and told her that my cousin in little rock would be happy to come by and check out the car… am waiting to hear her response. i found the ad on craigslist. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR….

  • well i heard from “alice anderson”. called “her” out, the big wuss. here is “her” response:

“What makes you think you are the only one ? nothing personal mate, I’m just here about the benjamins, I didn’t specifically targeted you for this, you are just one in the hundred people who contact me every day.”

obviously a man hiding behind a woman’s name.
if he really wanted to fool us americans, then perhaps learn english.

beware… here is “her” email, the arrogant jerk.

    “Alice Anderson”

    disgusting…!!!

  • “Alice Anderson” alice.anderson at nwcable dot net

  • here’s more. love how he coughs it up after a little provocation……..
    B E W A R E of the guy who can’t spell….

“Does that include my real name ? real address ? real IP ? we both know that’s bullshit, they’ve been “close” for the last 6 years mate, what you think you were dealing with some mindless uneducated unaware of his surrounding idiot ? think again

Name and addresses can be forged in a minute, IP addressed can be hidden with VPN software, proxy servers, offshore hosting accounts, prepaid Internet access (no registration) modems.

I fluently speak three international languages, I have a degree in web design and 2 different programming platforms.

I am not being arrogant out of some misguided self confidence, I am being arrogant because I know for a fact that your government “experts” are noting but a bunch of overweight drones who can’t do nothing unless given an order.

Just accept the fact that you can’t touch me and move on”

  • Beware of another scammer by the name of Jennifer Gray.

  • i was interested in a vehicle on craigslist from an ellen…thinking it was too good to be true i found this fraud website…thank you sooooo much. as an anxious compassionate parent i fell for the bull shit story about a sons tradgic death and just wanting to get rid of the memories….

  • Also, be aware of Mary Johanson. Yes these people are an absolute disgrace to our Nation. this man impersonated a medical soldier who is about to be deployed to Afghanistan. My father is a veteran of the Marines and it absolutely disgusts me that these people get off impersonating the people who give us the right to be able to complete transactions like this. this is fucking America and if your not a good person we dont want you here. thats that.

  • Here is another person wanting to sell us a truck that was a fake… BEWARE it’s a nice 2001 Black Ford F-150 Super Crew Cab Harley Davidson Edition for $4800.00 with 28,000 miles on it from the Naples, FLorida Daiey Newspaper, the web site was called Southwest Florida Daily News. The seller’s info is [email protected] DO NOT OPEN THAT WEBSITE!!!! The seller and us talked about the truck and they said they wanted to go through the ebay Vehicle Buyer Protection for our safety and hers. She also sent us more pics of the truck. Said she got it in the divorce and needed money. Thank Goodness I saw this web site BEFORE falling for the scam because I asked for her Ebay ID# and told her I couldn’t find the truck or any info at all pertaining to the truck on Ebay and I received no response. I pulled up her website again to email her again to see if she got my email and the second I clicked on her email address my brand new computer starting going off with alerts everywhere..my hard drive, my files, everything was being attacked from a virus they put on the email. Basically I think after they figured out I wasn’t falling for their scam they put a virus on the email address. Thankfully my awesome vires protection stopped all of the attacks. I had 21 virus’ in less than 5 seconds. I took in my computer and they told me they all got stopped by my protection. Soooo lesson to be learned…INVESTIGATE ANY AND ALL TRANSACTIONS AND IF IT’S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE THEN IT IS 🙂 Good Luck everyone and thanks for sharing your stories on here or I would of been a victom also.

  • Awas just a fraud victim yesterday..a richard walker who was soo sick ned to sell his 1996 impala ss for 2800 sounded great then some agent named troy stared contacting me asked me to send money western union to an ebay representative Jason Lopez in florida…my advice. Is not use any ebay craislist etc unless it is in your area and you can meet in person. If you get an email from “[email protected]” or any emails in your personal email from ebay something is wrong and if ebay did thbe url would start with http not for example <[email protected]…BEWORNED……!!!!!!

This guy says he works for the Bank on repo cars. Wants you to send money to Ebay Motors. I started asking questions and started back pedeling. Asked if I could see the car and he told me that it was at the Ebay holding area in Sacramento and it would be shipped to me . I got a little fustrated and said forget it.
    Thank god I did.

  • Thank you, your video just confirmed my suspicions of a CL seller who wants to conduct a transaction via eBay so that WE BOTH are protected under their Buyer Protection Plan for Vehicles. I thought is was very suspicious and I was quite hesitant anyway, however your video just confirmed my $ is staying in my pocket. If I have a PayPal acct, why do I need to go out and purchase PayPal cards????? Nope, don’t think so. Pays to do a little research people! Be smart!

    • Mary, thanks for your comment. Glad you checked first before losing your money. To the right of this post is a link to the real eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection plan details. It’s advised to read what’s covered and especially what’s not.

  • Woohooo!!! Ran into a very similar situation as Mary G below today, with a CL seller who wants to do it through Ebay motors to protect and insure both, after refusing a test drive, the excuse was a sob story and that the person has moved to a far away state, then proceeded to ask for my personal info, stating that the car is ready to be shipped by Ebay blah blah. I was already pretty skeptical of the too good to be true price, so the response just made the whole thing even more suspicious. Googled it and stumbled on this blog. Thanks!!!

Sir, my name is shivanand Naik,ex-serviceman, i have lost rs 2,55000/-indian rupee,ON 02/08/2016, due to fraud selling innova car by mrs Elizabeth divine , she send ebay escrow acct like HSBC BANK ACCT NAME SUBITO GLOBAL LTD IBAN : GB50 MIDL 4002 1391 8617 86 SWIFT CODE (BIC) MIDLGB22 BANK ADDRESS 281 CHISWICK HIGH ROAD LONDON W4 4HJ

SIR, ANY LEGAL ACTION OR HOW MONEY BACK IS POSSIBLE ? PL REPLAY

    • Not really. Your money is most likely long gone.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but these scams have been going on since the early 2000s. As we used to say in the car business, there’s an ass for every seat. Folks quit feeding these scammers falling for a too good to be true deal! That’s the only way this fraud will ever stop!

  • Can we catch these criminals? Scammers email [email protected] ANTONIDA VALISKAYA. Please see the open transaction I’m in the middle of below. Would love to catch and prosecute?

    • Not that we are aware of. This kind of fraud got started on eBay Motors back in the early 2000s, and since has spread to just about any online classified venue. Most of these fraudsters are overseas. Try filing a complaint on IC3.gov though i doubt anyone cares. If people didn’t think there was a bargain car in mint condition for 1/3 of book price fraudsters would be out of business.

  • Linda Chavez

Got scammed today from Antonida Valiskaya for a travel trailer. Almost paid, but checked things out and found several articles on this scammer! Shame on you Antonida Valiskaya.
